解 析
4. D)假如A)对,man 肯借车给她,他会直接告诉她,“I抦 sorry to hear it, but you can use mine.”
Be supposed to do “设定为,应该”,2:30推迟了15分钟,即2:45,选B。
Woman 不这样认为,“I don抰 think so. It must be the window cleaner working upstairs.”
短文说“He was pronounced in a good condition, suffering only four or five slight wounds.”

Passage One
My parents ran a small restaurant. The restaurant was open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And my first job when I was six years old was shining shoes for customers. My duties increased as I grew older. By age ten I was clearing tables and washing plates. My father made it clear that I had to meet certain standards. I had to be on time, hard-working and polite to the customers. I was never paid for any work I did. One day I made a mistake of telling Dad I thought he should give me 10 pounds a week. He said: 揙k. Then how about you paying me for the three meals a day when you eat here and for the times you bring in your friends for free drinks. He figured I owed him about 40 pounds a week. That taught me quite a lot.

Passage Two
Cambridge is about 90 kilometres northeast of London. It is one of the most beautiful places in Britain. Everything about the city of Cambridge reminds you of its famous university: students on bicycles, the atmosphere of learning, traditions and the magnificent buildings of the 30 colleges that are in the University of Cambridge. Most of the colleges stand on the bank of the Cam River, the gentle river that flows through the heart of the city. Tourists and students like boating in a kind of flat bottom boat to see the colleges or to relax themselves. If the water traffic reminds the visitor of Venice, the road traffic is more likely to recall Beijing or Amsterdam. The streets are full of bicycles, hundreds and hundreds of them. They provide a cheap form of transport for the students and very conveniently of getting around the Cambridge narrow streets.

Questions 15 to 17 are based on the passage you have just heard.
15. What do tourists enjoy doing in Cambridge for relaxation?
16. Why did the road traffic in Cambridge remind one of Beijing?
17. What is the speaker抯 impression of Cambridge?

Passage Three
Mr. Foster started his publishing business with only one magazine. It was called 揥orldnews - Mostly it had summaries of important weekly events from around the world. But it always included one or two stories about interesting people. Mr. Foster put these in because he believed all people like to read about other people. Several years ago, Mr. Foster started two other magazines. One was called 揈nterprise . It is for business people. And the other was called 揂ction , for sportsmen. Like 揥orldnews , they always have two or three stories about interesting people. Five years ago, Mr. Foster got another idea for a magazine. He wanted this one to have even more stories about people than the others and to have more photographs. This one was named 揊aces and Places . From the very beginning, it was a big success.

Questions 18 to 20 are based on the passage you have just heard.

Section B
Passage One
A couple of months ago, I went to a department store to buy a few things for the house. I needed a set of curtains for the living room, two table lamps, a rug and several cushions. I asked them to deliver the things as soon as possible, but they said that they were unable to send them out until 20 days later. After about 3 weeks, I received only the curtains and table lamps. I was a little disappointed when I didn抰 receive all the items I had bought. But nevertheless, I was eager to see what the curtains and lamps looked like. I first opened the package with the curtains. I had bought a lovely light blue, and instead they had sent me a horrible dark purple. Well, you can just imagine how angry I was. Then I opened the boxes with the lamps. They were exactly what I ordered. But one of the lamp shapes was damaged. The next thing I did was to telephone them to complain. They promised to come and pick them up immediately and also to replace them with the correct order. It has been two weeks since my complaint. They have neither picked up the wrong items nor sent me the rest of my order.

Questions 11 to 13 are based on the passage you have just heard.
11. When did the woman want the store to deliver the items?
12. Was the woman pleased when she saw the items they had delivered?
13. What happened in the end?

Passage Two
In the high mountain country outside the city of Toluker, there stands a prison. This prison is quite different from other prisons in the world. The guards, except for two at the main gate, are not armed. There are many remarkable things about Toluker prison. For example, of the 15, 000 individuals who have been in prison at Toluker, less than two percent have got into trouble again with the law. Men in the open prison are free to find work in the outside but must go back to prison each night. On weekends they are allowed to go home. When most other prisons are still sending criminals back into society, Toluker is returning people who stand on their own feet and contribute to society. In 1974, a prisoner called Bob Crook moved to the open prison. A year later, he left Toluker for the last time. He was then nearly forty six and had been in prison for fourteen years. He got a job as construction worker in the city, remarried and was regarded as a useful person of his community. If you ask Bob why Toluker works, he would say because they believed in me when I was at my worst.

Questions 14 to 17 are based on the passage you have just heard.
14. Why is Toluker prison called an open prison?
15. What is the essential characteristic of Toluker Prison?
16. How long did Bob Crook stay in the Toluker prison?
17. What is the speaker抯 attitude toward this type of prison?

Passage Three
Sports and games are very useful for character training. In their lessons at school, boys and girls may learn about such virtues as unselfishness, courage, discipline and love of one抯 country. But what is learned in books can not have the same deep effect on a child抯 character as what is learned by experience. As most of the pupils time is spent in classes studying lessons, the ordinary day school can抰 give much practical training for their lives in the future. So it is what the pupils do in their spare time, that really prepares them to take their places in society as citizens when they grow up. If each of them learns to work for his team, and not for himself on the football filed, he will later find it natural to work for the good of his country instead of only for his own benefit.

Questions 18 to 20 are based on the passage you have just heard.
18. What is the speaker抯 opinion about leaning from books?
19. Why isn抰 ordinary day school able to give pupils much training for their future lives?
20. What can help to develop the child抯 love of his country according to the speaker?

解 析
1. C) “Take it easy敚馑际恰按尤荩崴桑唤粽拧薄!皐ork out”,意思是“可以解决”。因此答案为C。
2.D)因为woman 认为 Linda抯 brother 话太多,故A错;而man 不仅赞同,还附加上一句说他很不友善。故B和C也不对。因此答案为D。
3.C) 这道题要求掌握“not until”句型,表示“直到……才”。医生要直到明天才有空。所以可见医生今天会一直都很忙。因此答案选 C。
4.B)“for life”指的是“终身”的意思,在句子中应指“for a long time”。
6.A)Would you like+食物,指的是“你要点……吗?”这是一句常见的饭桌用语。可见他们正在吃东西。果汁、冻牛奶都是吃的内容之一。因此他们应该正在吃早餐。故选 A。
7.D)由woman的回答“I抎 love to”可知A错;如果我们住在Australia, 回家过圣诞节的话,应该在Australia的前面加上back,故B不对;而Man 的话就是对woman 的邀请,故C错;所以答案选D。
故选A。
9.D)其实man 的完整回答是“ The post office closes at four on Sundays.
remarkable“不可思议的”,contribute“作贡献”,useful“有用的”。
故选A。

Section B
Passage One
Most summer school courses in Britain last form two to four weeks. During that time, students live either with a British family, or at the school, or in a hotel. They have about 15 hours of lessons every Monday to Friday-usually in the mornings. Each school has a lot of different courses. Some are for beginners and others are for intermediate or advanced students. The lessons are fun; the classes are small and the teachers are all from English-speaking countries. But summer school students don’t just speak English in the classroom. They are in Britain, so they speak and read and hear it outside too. That is why they learn so quickly and why a summer school’s of course really a holiday. Only one third of each course is taught in the classroom. The rest takes place during a busy afternoon and evening timetable of visits, sport and games. These activities help everyone to make new friends, have fun and improve their English.

Questions 11 to 13 are based on the passage you have just heard.
11.What kind of course do summer schools offer?
12.Why the summer schools arrange visits and other activities for the students?
13.Why do students in summer schools learn quickly?

You may borrow one video at a time. The video must be returned in one week. If you can not return it on time, please call. Otherwise your video library card will be cancelled. You may borrow 3 items at one time. That is 3 books or 3 cassettes. Items must be returned within 1 month. You can telephone the library to renew items for another month.

Passage Three
Can you imagine ice that does not melt and is not wet? Have you ever heard of dry ice? Dry ice is made by freezing gas . It is quite different from ordinary ice which is simply frozen water. Dry ice was first manufactured in 1925. It has since fulfilled the hope of its inventor. It can be used for making artificial fog in the movies. When steam is passed over dry ice, a very dense vapor rises. It can also be used for destroying insects in grain supplies. It is more practical than ordinary ice because it takes up less space and it is 142 degrees colder. Since it turns into steam, instead of melting into water, it is cleaner to use. For these reasons, it is extremely popular and many people prefer it to ordinary ice. Dry ice is so cold that if you touch it with your bare fingers, it will burn you.

Questions 17 to 20 are based on the passage you have just heard.
17.What is dry ice made of?

Passage Two
Researchers have discovered a link between drinking and thinking. A moderate amount of alcohol may help us keep our mental abilities as we age. Brain scans show alcohol abuse kills brain cells. But little is known about the effects of life-long drinking. So moderate drinkers may want to toast new findings from researchers at Duke, and Indiana Universities. Dr. Joe Christian of Indiana Universities says men who have one or two drinks each day retain slightly stronger comprehension skills than the non-drinker or the heavy drinker. The doctor and his colleagues gave mental tests to nearly 4000 male twins between the ages of 66 and 76. The moderate drinkers had slightly better reasoning ability than their brothers who drink more or less. Other studies have found that alcohol in moderation can help the heart. But alcohol abuse can cause bone loss and other health problems. This study was presented at an alcoholism meeting in San Antonio.

Questions 14 to 16 are based on the passage you have just heard.
14.What had recent research found about drinking?

On Christmas Eve 1971, Julia Smith was taking a flight in Peru with her mother to join her father, a Professor, who was an expert on the jungle and plants and animals living there. She found a stream and followed it, trying to keep in the shade as much as possible, because she had no hat. For ten days, she walked along the river, eating fruits from the trees. At night she slept near the riverbank, on the ground which was wet from the rain. She often felt weak, but she refused to give up. On the 10th day, she arrived at a small hut. The three Indian hunters who visited the hut every two weeks rescued her and took her by boat to a small village from where she was flown to a hospital. She was safe at last.

Passage One
I had to go to Amsterdam last week for a conference. I arrived at the airport in plenty of time and checked in. But I only had one small case, so I decided to take it on the plane as hand-luggage. As the flight was not due to board for 45 minutes, I went to a cafe, sat down and ordered a cup of coffee. While I was sitting there, drinking my coffee and reading the paper, I was vaguely aware of a woman and her child coming to sit at the next table. I did not pay much attention to them though. And when my flight was called, I reached for my case and left. An hour later, the plane was in the air and I decided to look at the conference program to see what I wanted to attend. Imagine my horror when I opened the case and found that is was full of picture books and children抯 toys. And imagine what the woman must have thought about a case full of men抯 clothes and scientific papers.

Questions 11 to 13 are based on the passage you have just heard.
11. Why did the speaker go to a cafe?
12. What was in the speaker抯 case?
13. What did the speaker find out on board the plane?

Passage Two
There are many reasons why family life in Britain has changed so much in the last 50 years. The liberation of women in the early part of 20th century and social and economic effects of World War Two had a great impact on traditional family life. Women became essential to industry and professions. During the war, they had worked in factories and proved their worth. Now with the loss of millions of men, their service was indispensable to the nation. More recently great advances in scientific knowledge, and particularly in medicine have had enormous social consequences. Children are better cared for and are far healthier. The infant death rate is low. Above all, parents now can plan the size of their family if they wish to use more effective means of birth control. Different attitudes to religion, authority and tradition generally have also contributed to changes in family life. But these developments have affected all aspects of society. 15. Why did British women become indispensable to industry after World War Two?

Passage Three
The key question for any only child is this: Why were you the only child? It抯 a key question for at least two reasons. If your parents had wanted several children, but would have you only, they are most likely to pour into you all the energy and attention that had been intended for several children. I call this the Special Jewel Phenomenon. Only children, or special jewels often arrive when their parents are older, usually in their thirties. These special jewels can become very spoiled and self-centered. On the other hand, you may be a only child because your parents planned for only one and stopped their plan. Your parents may give you a very strict and well structured education to make you a little adult. Many only children grew up feeling unhappy because they always had to be such little adults.

Questions 17 to 20 are based on the passage you have just heard.
17. Who are likely to treat their only children as special jewels?
18. Why do some only children become little adults?
19. What does the passage mainly discuss?
20. Why do some only children feel unhappy?

Section B
Passage One
After retiring from 30 years of teaching, Ethbel1 Pepper could easily have decided to sit back and relax and enjoy a peaceful retirement. But that kind of life is not for Ethbell Pepper. 揑 just wanted to do something different. If you are going to participate in life, do it. Don抰 just sit down and look out the window.擲he says. At 68, She decided to become one of the pioneer participants in a program at the university of California. The program offers campus housing and classes to people over sixty. She enrolled in a class called Human Relationships and Diverse society. I taught my minority students in my Eng1ish and drama classes in high school for 20 years. But in this course, I found out a lot about other cultures I didn抰 know then. One of the more important lessons that I抦 learning is to perceive, not to judge.擮lder adults can add to the educational resources of university by bringing with them a lot of valuable experience. Their presence on campus helps break some long believes of aging. Young students may have fears of growing older. But that kind of fear can be reduced as they see that older people can be active, healthy, and continue to contribute to society. The younger students can begin to see aging as a natural part of living.

Questions l1 to 14 are based on the passage you have just heard.
11. What did Ethbell do when she was 68?
12. How long did Ethbe1l teach minority students?
13. What do elderly people do for the university?
14. What抯 the most important lesson Ethbell is learning?

Passage Two
Do you have a tough math test coming up? Then listen to some classical piano music just before the test. You might end up with a higher score. Researchers at a university in California conducted an experiment. They asked a group of college students to listen to some piano music by a famous 18th century composer before taking a math test. They were surprised to find that the students抯cores jumped 8 to 9 points. The music seems to excite nerve activities in the brain; similar to the activity that occurs when a person is figuring out a math problem. However, the scientists warn before you get too excited about applying this method to your math test. You should remember that brain exciting effects last only 10 or 15 minutes. Would rock music work as well as the piano music did? No, the scientists say. In fact, the less complex music might even interfere with the brains reasoning ability.

Questions 15 to 17 are based on the passage you have just heard.
15. What is this passage mainly about?
16. Why can classical music play a positive role in problem solving?
17. What is one of the findings of the research?

Passage Three
When a sleepy driver has trouble in keeping his eyes on the road and gets too close to another car. An alarm sound wi1l warn the driver. If nothing is done, the car will automatically come to a stop and in this way prevent an accident. This is a new device which will soon be tested in an experimental car in Japan. The computer warning system keeps track of a driver抯 condition by monitoring his heart beat with signals transmitted from a band round his wrist. The wrist band records the driver抯 pulse which measures the heart beat. Each pulse in the wrist sends a signal to the computer. By analyzing the pulse rate, the computer can determine whether a driver is drunk, sleeping or ill. Devices in other parts of the car can also tell the computer if the car is too close to another vehicle or is moving dangerously. The computer will sound the alarm when a problem arises, and will automatically stop the car if the driver ignores the warning.

18. Why is a computer system installed in an experimental car?
19. What did the computer system do first when a problem arises?
20. What is special about the new computer system?

Another man who was standing nearby got into the car and put on the handbrake, saving the girls from injury.
It was at this point that Paul noticed his own car rolling slowly down the hill and going too fast for him to stop it. It crashed into a bus at the bottom of the hill and was so badly damaged that it had to be pulled away to a garage.

I soon found the key Vernon gave me could not unlock either the front door or the back door. I was getting desperate. I kept thinking of what Vemon would say when he came back.
I was just going to give up when I noticed that one bedroom window was slightly open. I found a barrel and pushed it under the window. As the barrel was very heavy, I made a lot of noise. But in the end, I managed to climb up and open the window.
I actually had one leg inside the bedroom when I suddenly realized that someone was shining a torch up at me. I looked down and saw a policemna and an old lady, one of Vernon 抯 neighbours. 揥hat are you doing up there? said the policeman. Section B
Passage One
There are three groups of English learners: beginners, intermediate leaners, and learners of special English. Beginners need to learn the basics of English. Students who have reached an intermediate level benefit from learning general English skills. But what about students who want to lean specialist English for their work or profess-
inal life? Most students, who fit into this third group have a clear idea about what they want to lean. A bank clerk, for example, wants to use this specialist vocabulary and technical terms of finance. But for teachers, deciding how to teach specialist English is not always so easy. For a start, the variety is enormous. Every field from airline pilots to secretaries has its own vocabulary and technical terms. Teachers also need to have an up-to-date knowledge of that specialist language, and not many teachers are exposed to working environments outside the classroom. These issues have influenced the way specialist English is taught in schools. This type of course is usually known as English for Specific Purposes, or ESP and there are ESP courses for almost every area of professional and working life. In Britain, for example, there are courses which teach English for doctors, lawyers, reporters, travel agents and people working in the hotel industry. By far, the most popular ESP courses are for business English.

Questions 11 to 14 are based on the passage you have just heard.
11. What is the characteristic of learners of special English?
12. Who needs ESP courses most?
13. What are the most popular ESP courses in Britain?
14. What is the speaker mainly talking about?

Passage Two
The first step to stopping drug abuse is knowing why people start to use drugs. The reasons people abuse drugs are as different as people are from one to another. But there seems to be one common threat: people seem to take drugs to change the way they feel. They want to feel better or feel happy or feel nothing. Sometimes, they want to forget or to remember. People often feel better about themselves when they are under the influence of drugs. But the effects don抰 last long. Drugs don抰 solve problems. They just postpone them. No matter how far drugs may take you, it抯 always around trip. After a while, people who miss drugs may feel worse about themselves, and they may use more drugs. If someone you know is using or abusing drugs, you can help. The most important part you can play is to be there. You can let your friends know you care. You can listen and try to solve the problem behind your friend抯 need to use drugs. Two people together can often solve a problem that seems too big for one person alone. Studies of heavy abusers in the United States show that they felt unloved and unwanted. They didn抰 have close friends to talk to. When you or your friends take the time to care for each other, you抮e all helping to stop drugs abuse. After all, what is a friend for?

Questions 15 to 17 are based on the passage you have just heard.
15. Why do some people abuse drugs?
16. According to the passage, what is the best way to stop friends from abusing drugs?
17. What are the findings of the studies about heavy drug users?

Passage Three
Bows and arrows, are one of man抯 oldest weapons. They gave early man an effective weapon to kill his enemies. The ordinary bow or short bow was used by nearly all early people. This bow had limited power and short range. However, man overcame these faults by learning to track his targets at a close range. The long bow was most likely discovered when someone found out that a five-foot piece of wood made a better bow than a three-foot piece. Hundreds of thousands of these bows were made and used for three hundred years. However, not one is known to survive today. We believe that a force of about one hundred pounds was needed to pull the string all the way back on a long bow. For a long time the bow was just a bent stick and string. In fact, more changes have taken place in a bow in the past 25 years than in the last 7 centuries. Today, the bow is forceful. It is as exact as a gun. In addition, it requires little strength to draw the string. Modern bows also have precise aiming devices. In indoor contest, perfect scores from 40 yards are common. The invention of the bows itself ranks with discovery of fire and wheel. It was a great-step-forward for man.

Questions 18 to 20 are based on the passage you have just heard.
18. Why did man have to track his target at a close range when using a short bow ?
19. What does the passage tell us about the long bow?
20. What do we know about modern bows?

解 析
1.C)“a full mark”即“满分”的意思,“Congratulations!”
3.A)“put up with sth”
4.A)“enthusiasm”即“热情”,“musical instruments”即“乐器”,“half as much for sth”即“有……的一半”。Man希望Bill对英语课有对乐器一半的热情就好了,说明Bill对英语没有多大的兴趣。由此选A。
5.D)be starving即be hungry very much的意思。
6.B)“twist one抯 ankle”(扭了脚),“put one抯 weight on it”即“在……上使劲”。由Man的回答可知:他原先并不以为这有多严重,但到现在还没好,因此他决定今天去看医生。
7.C)这是一道考时间的听力题,关键要听仔细。“at the latest”即“最迟”。
10.D)“too dramatic to be realistic”(太戏剧性了而不真实)即“exaggerate”(太夸张了)。
